The Delta State Police Command issued a stern statement, declaring that Nigerians with dubious sources of wealth may face arrest and legal proceedings if they fail to justify their income.
According to Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, law enforcement has the authority to investigate and prosecute individuals who cannot account for their sources of income, emphasizing the seriousness of the issue.
In a social media post on Sunday, Edafe lamented what he termed a “sad trend,” where people resist questioning what he referred to as the “suspicious wealth” of fellow citizens. He highlighted the prevalence of serious crimes such as kidnapping, ritual killings, and internet fraud in the country.
Edafe stressed that the police force has directed its operatives to act ethically and not view justifiable investigations as an opportunity for extortion. He commented, “It is a very sad trend that people feel it’s wrong to question the suspicious wealth of persons who cannot lay claim to any justifiable means of income.”
He continued, “However, any person arrested and can’t justify his source of income should be properly investigated and charged to court when the cockroach in his cupboard has been unveiled. Like me, hate me, I don’t mind, it’s the simple truth.”
The Delta State Police’s message indicates a strong commitment to addressing financial impropriety and maintaining public order. Nigerians are urged to cooperate with law enforcement, and those unable to provide a clear explanation of their income sources may face legal consequences following thorough investigation.
