The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has swiftly directed the release of individuals apprehended at the residence of Sheik Ibrahim Jibrin, Director-General of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Campaign Council in Anyigba, Kogi State. The move comes in the aftermath of a vicious assault by alleged political thugs linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), resulting in the tragic death of a policeman and four others.

Earlier reports by ChroniclesReporters outlined the brazen attack on Sheik Jibrin’s residence at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, where marauders, suspected to be affiliated with Governor Yahaya Bello’s APC, not only killed but also seized the remains of the slain policeman and other victims identified as security guards.

In response, the police force, in an attempt to address the incident, reportedly conducted arrests at the location. However, a statement from Faruk Adejoh-Audu, spokesperson for the Muri/Sam Gubernatorial Campaign of the SDP, revealed that those apprehended were unrelated to the assailants.

Recent developments indicate that the Inspector General of Police, Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate release of the detainees and has tasked the state police commissioner, Bethrand Onuoha, with identifying and holding accountable the officers responsible for the improper arrests.

Sources reveal that Commissioner Onuoha may face removal from his position in the wake of the investigation. The IGP, currently in Lokoja probing the matter, emphasizes the need to unearth the officers involved in the unlawful operation, signaling potential changes in leadership just days before the state’s governorship election.”
