Abdulazeez Adegbola, widely known as Tani Olohun and an advocate for the Isese indigenous religion, has been set free from detention on Friday. This follows the completion of his bail conditions, as directed by the Kwara Chief Magistrates Court in Ilorin.

Tani Olohun had been held in the Federal Correctional Service in Ilorin for 91 days, facing charges including criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance, disturbing public peace, criminal defamation of character, and intentional insult. These charges were brought against him on August 17, 2023, before the Chief Magistrate Court.

The prosecution cited violations of sections 97, 210, 392, and 114 of the penal code law of Nigeria. Additionally, he faced similar charges in the Kwara State Upper Area Court.

His lawyer, Mr Ademola Bank, confirmed the approval of his bail application, stating that Tani Olohun had expressed remorse, apologized to Islamic Scholars and the entire Muslim community, and sought forgiveness. The court granted him bail on liberal terms.

Counsels for the complainants, Labeeb Lagbaji and Modirasatu Mohammed Islamic organization, did not oppose Tani Olohun’s bail plea. The release comes after a previous grant of bail by a Kwara State Upper Area Court, ensuring Tani Olohun’s freedom.
