Three police inspectors serving with the Ogun State Command, namely Ikhanorba Lucky, Paul Sunday, and Edwin Ekeogu, are now facing disciplinary action over their alleged involvement in extorting money from commercial motorcyclists in the vicinity of Maawu Bustop, Agbado, Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement from the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, these three inspectors were caught on camera in an incident that went viral, showcasing their unprofessional behavior. The incident in question occurred on October 19, 2023.
The statement highlights the misconduct as follows: “On October 19, 2023, Inspector Ikhanorba Lucky, Inspector Paul Sunday, and Inspector Edwin Ekeogu were involved in an incident of professional misconduct while on visibility policing duty at Maawu Bus stop in the Agbado area of the state. These officers were caught on camera extorting money from commercial motorcyclists, which is in direct contravention of the Police Act and Regulations. The inappropriate actions of the three policemen were subsequently shared on social media.”
The State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has taken strong exception to this incident and has publicly condemned the unprofessional conduct of these officers.
In response to this misconduct, the command has initiated appropriate disciplinary measures against the erring personnel. This action is designed to ensure that they are held accountable for their behavior and serves as a deterrent to other officers who might be tempted to engage in similar unscrupulous practices.
