Approximately 40,000 security personnel are set to be deployed to ensure the security of the upcoming Kogi State governorship election scheduled for November 11, according to the state’s Commissioner of Police, Bernard Onuoha. In an interview with PUNCH at the state command headquarters in Lokoja, the CP expressed concerns about the potential for violence during the election.

He acknowledged that the election is off-season, which allows for the mobilization of ample officers to provide effective coverage due to the volatile nature of Kogi State elections. While he couldn’t provide the exact number of personnel, he emphasized that it would not be less than 40,000.

The CP is particularly focused on addressing the threat of violence, especially in flashpoint areas like Olamaboro, Dekina, Ejule in Kogi East, and Adavi, Obehira, Obangede in Kogi Central. These areas have already been identified as potential hotspots, and efforts are being made to ensure a peaceful election.

As part of these efforts, the CP has engaged with the Attah of Igala, assuring him that he will communicate the importance of civility to his subjects before, during, and after the election. This proactive approach aims to reduce the likelihood of violence and ensure a smooth and peaceful electoral process.
