In a concerning turn of events reminiscent of the #EndSARS protest fallout in 2020, Adamawa state is facing unrest as youth engage in rampant looting of government-owned grain reserves and private shops.

The looting began at the grain warehouse near PZ Roundabout, in close proximity to the Yola International Airport. Disturbingly, reports indicate that various grain reserves along Numan Road and other key locations are also under attack.

The situation escalated further when some youths turned to looting private establishments, escalating the chaos. As armed policemen attempt to control the situation, there have been distressing incidents of live bullets being fired, contributing to the violence on the streets.

One looter, in an interview with SaharaReporters, attributed the actions to the prevailing hardship in the country following the removal of subsidy on premium motor spirit (petrol).

To restore order and ensure the safety of citizens, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has imposed a 24-hour curfew. In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Himwashi Wonosikou, Governor Fintiri emphasized that the curfew was a necessary response to the dangerous escalation of hoodlum activities across the state capital, with instances of people being attacked with machetes, and businesses and homes being targeted for theft.

During the curfew, all movement in the state is restricted, except for individuals on essential duties with valid identification. The Governor earnestly appeals to all citizens and residents to comply with the directive. Anyone found violating the order will be arrested and held accountable according to the law.

This is a developing situation, and authorities are working diligently to restore peace and security to the region.
