The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has strongly criticized Asari Dokubo, a Niger Delta leader and former agitator, for opposing the call to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Vice President South East, Amb. Smart Uwakwe, expressed his disapproval, stating that Dokubo himself should be the one behind bars.

In a statement, Uwakwe reiterated the plea for Kanu’s release to Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, outlining the terms and conditions necessary for the nation’s security, peace, unity, and progress. He urged President Bola Tinubu and all Nigerians to be wary of the “Cabal of Evil Forces” that take pleasure in destabilizing Nigeria’s unity. Uwakwe reassured Tinubu of the continued contributions of Ndigbo to the peace, security, unity, and progress of the nation.

The statement further emphasized, “We have noticed that Asari Dokubo’s remarks, labelling Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as a criminal and advocating against his release, may have been influenced by the recent call from Igbo youth leaders and stakeholders. Such statements are viewed with suspicion.”
